Reacting to last-minute delays efficiently and effectively
Cementation Skanska is a division of Skanska, a multinational construction and development company based in Sweden. They design and install groundworks & foundations for major projects across all sectors.
In 2023, they began a 4-year project to deliver a new 10-mile dual carriageway upgrade to the A428 between Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire.
An important part of this was a new three-tier junction at Black Cat roundabout near St Neots. Having previously worked with ATI, they contacted us for a solution to store & dispense cement on a small site – a perfect use case for our vertical gravity silos.
Silos, hauliers and delivery dates were arranged but, at the last-minute, delays on-site put paid to our plans. Our team jumped to it ensuring when delivery was finally doable, it went off without a hitch.
The Challenge
- Space restrictions – storage was needed for a large quantity of cement on a site with limited space.
- Last-minute delays – the area designated for the silos wasn’t completed in time for the scheduled delivery.
- Accessory changes – after silo set up, the PVC socks (flexible tubes to make cement dispensing easier) that they’d requested for the silos were too short to be ideal.
The Solution
- Our wide range of silos meant we had the perfect solution – two of our 45m³ vertical gravity silos.
- Our logistics team reserved the silos and kept regular contact with Skanska and our haulier. This ensured that when the site was finally ready, the silos were delivered as soon as requested.
- We immediately sent out longer PVC socks by same-day delivery, minimising disruption to their process.
The Result
Thanks to our extensive and varied range, we had the perfect silo solution. And when unexpected delays occurred, our team’s proactivity ensured that the eventual delivery went off without a hitch.
