Gravity silos hold cement dust that helps to turn refinery waste into landfill. Hydrock is a UK leader in sustainable remediation – cleaning up polluted sites ready for redevelopment and recycling by-products wherever possible. For a recent remediation project at the former BP refinery at Llandarcy near Neath, South Wales, Hydrock dredged a massive lake of 50,000 cubic metres of hydrocarbon sludge and turned it into geotechnical fill material. ATI supplied four 31m3 gravity silos to store cement bypass dust to mix with the sludge. Hydrock then used this material to build an embankment for a new road on the site. This is the first time hydrocarbon sludge has been used to make a fill material in the UK.
